CD sale to support Germaniac.com and Radio Goethe

136 CDs for sale

Anyone who runs a website on their own knows that it’s not free, and it can even get a little expensive when you’ve got multiple hosting accounts and tons of domain names like I do in my little web empire. The money to keep sites like Germaniac.com running smoothly has to come from somewhere. The thing is, I don’t want to insert Google ads and huge banners all over the place because I hate them as much as you do, so I have decided to have a special CD sale to raise some money for the site. It’s the best solution I can think of. You get some new music and support one of your favorite websites at the same time.

I am selling 136 CDs! Some of them are albums that I have somehow aquired more than one copy of in my own personal collection which I don’t need, and others are CDs that I just don’t listen to anymore as my tastes have changed. There are brand new CDs that I have aquired from various bands that I have helped over the years. And I will also be including special discounts on all CDs from the official band shops I operate on Stahlhammer.org and Schmerzwerk.com. All together, a wide variety of genres are accounted for in these CDs, and the bands come from all around the world (although you can be sure there are a lot of German bands in there).

Also for sale are all 4 Radio Goethe compilations which will benefit the RG program and independent radio. Each one has dozens of songs by a variety of German bands packed onto 2 CDs and they cost just $5 each! I honestly can’t think of a better way to introduce yourself or your friends to such a wide range of great German music.

If you want to see what’s for sale, just head on over to this page. All instructions you will need to order are listed there as well. Thanks for your support!

This week, Arndt has a very special Radio Goethe podcast for us. The entire show is dedicated to the most internationally successful German band ever. Of course, I’m talking about Rammstein. Ambient electronica on Radio Goethe this week

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Radio Goethe podcast

Even though my roots are in industrial and metal, I’ve had an increasing interest in ambient electronic music over the past couple years. This week’s Radio Goethe podcast really appeals to that side of me. As I sit here writing this, I am already enjoying the calm, atmospheric sounds of the synthesizers. They are drawn out here for your enjoyment, too. If you’re feeling stressed out, this podcast will help you relax. And despite what looks like a short playlist, these 8 songs actually slightly overshoot the 1 hour timeframe of the podcast, so there’s certainly no lack of good music here.

As always, you can download an MP3 of the podcast on iTunes by doing a search for Radio Goethe. Or of you prefer, you can stream the file by clicking the “Listen to the latest show” button at the top of the Radio Goethe website.

Philipp Weigl: Underwater Dancer
Krill.Minima: Apfelbaumgrund

Radio Goethe podcast on German rock and metal

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Radio Goethe podcast

This week’s Radio Goethe podcast is geared more towards people into the heavier sounds: hard rock, metal, and industrial-metal. These are some of the genres that Germany is best known for, and there is a lot to choose from. Check out the new show to listen to some of the essential bands and a few more obscure and newer bands from this area. It is available on the Radio Goethe website or on iTunes. This is definitely one of my favorite podcasts.

Don’t miss the little Germaniac.com promo after the DKay.com song! Thanks, Arndt.

Listen to new music on the Radio Goethe podcast

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Radio Goethe podcast

The latest Radio Goethe podcast opens with some music that hasn’t even been released yet: 2 new tracks from Einstürzende Neubauten’s forthcoming album Alles Wieder Offen. It will be released in late October (more details in a future post) but why wait until then to start listening to it? The first half of the show is rounded out with some more experimental-electronic songs including a great remix of Faust’s “Wir Brauchen Dich #6″ from the remix album Freispiel, as well as the original version of “T-Electronique” which can be found on their Ravvivando album. (The original version of “Wir Brauchen Dich #6″ can also be found on Ravvivando.)

If you like the Faust you hear, I really recommend checking out the album he did with Dälek, an indie-hip-hop musician from New Jersey. I know what you’re thinking… I was hesitant at first, too, but Dälek is nothing at all like your typical hip-hop music, and their music combined with the incredible experimentation of Faust make for an absolutely amazing fusion of sounds that is unlike anything I have heard before or since. The album, Derbe Respect Alder, also features a modified version of the song “T-Electronique” from this podcast.

Getting back to the show, the second half is a mini-special focusing on the final album by Sonic Front which was just recently released. You can listen to the Radio Goethe podcast either by subscribing to it on iTunes or simply by streaming it from the Radio Goethe website by clicking on “Listen to the latest show” at the top of the page.

The new Radio Goethe podcast
Einstürzende Neubauten: Die Wellen
Einstürzende Neubauten: Alles Wieder Offen
Dave Ball & Ingo Vauk: Wir Brauchen Dich #6
Faust: T-Electronique
Mathias Schaffhäuser: Hey little girl
Sonic Front: White out
Sonic Front: 36 Below
Sonic Front: Forgetting is bliss
Sonic Front: Common ground
Sonic Front: Crazy
Sonic Front: Wave Goodbye
