Einstürzende Neubauten’s digital single “Weil Weil Weil” on iTunes now

Einstürzende Neubauten - Weil Weil Weil

Einstürzende Neubauten’s digital single “Weil Weil Weil” was released today on iTunes, but here’s the catch: They have set it up so only people in Germany using iTunes can access the single for now. I don’t know exactly how it is done, whether it’s judged by your location or where your credit card is based, but the Americans using iTunes won’t be able to download the single until the 16th. Each country’s single release date is one week before the album’s release date. Makes sense, I guess… Here’s the link to access the single on iTunes.

“Weil Weil Weil” is the first single in support of their new album Alles Wieder Offen which will be released later this month. The digital single contains remixes by each member of the band, plus a kareoke version without lyrics so you can sing along. If you really can’t wait to download the digital single, you can always get an MP3 of the album version of “Weil Weil Weil” from Einstürzende Neubauten’s website.

Einstürzende Neubauten - Alles Wieder Offen

Einstürzende Neubauten has once again emerged from the junkyard where their “instruments” were found. With them, they bring their brand new album Alles Wieder Offen, which is already a big hit before it has even been released. Radio programs like Radio Goethe have songs like “Let’s Do It A Dada”, “Die Wellen” and the title track “Alles Wieder Offen” playing quite often, making EN fans drool for the full album that’s not coming out until October 19th (or the 23rd for the U.S.).

From the music I’ve heard so far, the album is typical of recent Einstürzende Neubauten music. Their old chaotic clanging and banging has given way to a more beautiful type of experimentation, and Blixa’s voice is an instrument all by itself. Of course, there is still plenty of pounding on scraps of metal that I love from Einstürzende Neubauten, its just usually more harmonious now. I’m really looking forward to the entire album.

If you’re a Neubauten fan, you’ve probably been following the band’s progress on the album’s website Alles-Wieder-Offen.com. On the site, there are webpages for each of the 10 songs on the album which give you a little history about the songs and provide the lyrics in both German and English. On the page for EN’s first (digital) single “Weil Weil Weil“, you can also download an MP3 of the song. There’s also a news page and a blog to keep you up to date, and a press area where you can check out press text, pictures of the band, and other goodies like that.

Einstürzende Neubauten - Alles Wieder Offen tracklist:
01. Die Wellen
02. Nagorny Karabach
03. Weil Weil Weil
04. Ich Hatte Ein Wort
05. Von Wegen
06. Let’s Do It A Dada
07. Alles Wieder Offen
08. Unvollstaendigkeit
09. Susej
10. Ich Warte

4 new releases out today

Friday, September 21st, 2007

There’s been so much news lately that I haven’t really had any time to tell you about 4 more releases that are hitting stores today. Normally I would go over them individually and in more detail, but I’m in a bit of a time crunch right now because later tonight I will be seeing Ulrich Schnauss live in New York City (more U.S. tourdates here) so I’m lumping them all together into one post and doing a quick overview for today. I’ll probably post about them in more detail at some time in the future.

  • Diary of Dreams - The Plague
Diary of Dreams has a new album coming up next month, and this single gives you a nice preview. Two versions of “The Plague” plus additional songs “Allocution” and “Traumtänzer”.
  • Götterdämmerung - Of Whores and Culture
This is kind of a gothic/new wave band from the Netherlands, and their new album (with quite an interesting title) features 10 new songs. Check out some of their music here.
  • Coppelius - Time-Zeit
Coppelius is an interesting band combining rock music with cellos, clarinets, the double bass, and other more traditional instruments. They also seem to have an old-fashioned sense of style. Check their MySpace page for some music. Thanks to Maija for pointing this one out.
  • Laibach - Nova Akropola (re-release)
And finally, I thought I would point out that one of Laibach’s older albums, Nova Akropola, is being re-released today. I know, they’re Slovenian, not German technically. But they have strong links to Germany, often use the German language, and are adored by most German music fans I know, so they’re approved.

There you have it. The terribly abridged, perhaps even rushed version of today’s releases. I’m sorry I don’t have more time to get into the details, but I’ll provide you with everything you need to know over the next few days. See you tomorrow.

Faust’s debut album re-released

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Faust - Faust

Faust is well known as one of the earliest and best Krautrock bands, starting in 1971 in the small village of Wümme, Germany. In that same year, they released their debut, also called Faust, on a clear 12-inch vinyl record. While this first album never really sold in big numbers, it did receive lots of acclaim and established a solid fanbase that would stay with the band for decades. Now, after 36 long years, the first Faust album will be available once again, starting today. Not only will you be able to get it on the modern format of a CD, but Faust will also be re-released as an exact reproduction of the original clear vinyl. The vinyl version will have the original clear cover with screenprinted x-ray image and the clear plastic inserts with red lyrics, as well.

I would say this is something any German music buff needs to have in their collection, but I also know that Faust can be a bit of an aquired taste to say the least. Personally, I love all the old, historically important German music like this. In fact, I’m listening to a live Faust performance right now. But I would say this is something you need to hear first before hopping over to some website to buy it.

Listen to new music on the Radio Goethe podcast

Radio Goethe podcast

The latest Radio Goethe podcast opens with some music that hasn’t even been released yet: 2 new tracks from Einstürzende Neubauten’s forthcoming album Alles Wieder Offen. It will be released in late October (more details in a future post) but why wait until then to start listening to it? The first half of the show is rounded out with some more experimental-electronic songs including a great remix of Faust’s “Wir Brauchen Dich #6″ from the remix album Freispiel, as well as the original version of “T-Electronique” which can be found on their Ravvivando album. (The original version of “Wir Brauchen Dich #6″ can also be found on Ravvivando.)

If you like the Faust you hear, I really recommend checking out the album he did with Dälek, an indie-hip-hop musician from New Jersey. I know what you’re thinking… I was hesitant at first, too, but Dälek is nothing at all like your typical hip-hop music, and their music combined with the incredible experimentation of Faust make for an absolutely amazing fusion of sounds that is unlike anything I have heard before or since. The album, Derbe Respect Alder, also features a modified version of the song “T-Electronique” from this podcast.

Getting back to the show, the second half is a mini-special focusing on the final album by Sonic Front which was just recently released. You can listen to the Radio Goethe podcast either by subscribing to it on iTunes or simply by streaming it from the Radio Goethe website by clicking on “Listen to the latest show” at the top of the page.

Synapscape releases Now

Synapscape - Now

Synapscape are set to release their sixth album Now later this week on their label Ant Zen. The album is set to come out tomorrow, the 4th, in the UK, and on the 6th in Germany. That’s a little strange because new albums are usually released in Germany on Fridays, not Thursdays. But what do I know? I’m just passing along what I’m told. Whenever it’s released, fans of electronic experimentation and ambience will be pleased. The sound is typical Synapscape, filled with bizarre rhythmic changes and all sorts of distorted sounds. Very atmospheric, in a way. I am liking what I hear on Synapscape’s MySpace page. Check it out.

Now
01. Hormona
02. Tale
03. Hint
04. Relate
05. Espionage
06. 10 Seconds
07. Blades
08. Bodies
09. Flame
10. Bend Sinister
11. Clouds

Endraum re-releasing 3 albums

Saturday, September 1st, 2007

Endraum is somewhat of an experimental electronic group from Frankfurt am Main who have been around for over 15 years. In that time, the group has released a dozen albums, some of which have been quite influential. Their older albums, however, have been long out of print, so it’s time for a few re-releases. Endraum’s 1993 album Zeitenlicht will be out again on Monday, September 3rd, along with In Flimmernder Nacht (also from 1993) and Innerlichkeit (from 1996). Check out their MySpace page for a few tracks and a nice bio about the band.

New Mezire album info and MP3s

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Just a quick update about the new Mezire album I told you about a few days ago… It seems that the release date discrepancy was caused by the band’s distributor which pushed it to August 31st, but the band has been selling the album since the 17th. I guess that means both dates are correct. Either way, you’ll be able to get the album without a problem.

Also, Mezire just uploaded 3 songs from the new album Corrosion Effects to their label’s site (look under the Audio link in the menu). They are also available on the band’s site in the Media page.

Thanks to Dirk and Frank from the band for letting us know about the changes.

Graf+Zyx re-release a classic avant-garde album

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Graf+Zyx - Trust No Woman

The Austrian duo of Inge Graf and Walter Zyx released their album Trust No Woman way back in 1981. This minimal electronic piece was quite avant-garde in its day, and remains inspirational to many musicians today. After 26 years, this classic album is being re-released for a new generation of electronic music lovers. Not only will this new release feature the original songs from the album, but will contain an additional half hour of rare sounds.

Trust No Woman Plus was released on July 23rd and is limited to just 500 copies. You can find the album from their label Klanggalerie.com for 14 Euros.

Einstürzende Neubauten is in the studio

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

Einstürzende Neubauten is currently in the studio working on their next album. We are expecting it to be available sometime later in the Fall, so stay tuned for updates.

EN’s most recent album that was actually available in stores was Perpetuum Mobile from 2004, but don’t think the band has been relaxing all this time. Blixa and the gang have been hard at work releasing a series of experimental albums called Musterhaus on their website, along with a couple records made exclusively for the band’s supporters.
