KMFDM - Extra series Volume 1

Extra, Vol. 1 announced

Early in April, we found out that KMFDM would be releasing a 3-part series of compilations called Extra, which would feature lots of the non-album material from the band’s extensive back-catalog. Then they announced the tracklisting for the first volume on May 1st, but gave no mention of when it would actually be released. I figured it couldn’t be too much longer before a date was given, and then I would post it here. But here we are now halfway through the month and we still don’t have a date, so I’ve given up on waiting around for them to give us more details.

So, if you haven’t seen it already, here’s the tracklisting for KMFDM’s Extra Vol. 1 compilation. The release date will just have to be posted later. Nevermind, Metropolis says it will be out on June 3rd. Why couldn’t KMFDM write that on their site?

KMFDM is re-releasing even more old music
Last month, we heard about KMFDM’s new set of releases called 24/7 where the are re-releasing one old single from the band’s back catalogue on a 7″ vinyl every month for the next 24 months. Now they are bombarding collectors with yet another group of re-releases called the Extra series. Extra is a trilogy of compilations that will contain all the rare non-album tracks KMFDM has recorded over the years. Volume 1 of the series will be a 2CD release with over 2 hours of music, although the exact tracklisting and release date have not been revealed yet.

Also, the “Don’t Blow Your Top” single from 24/7 has already sold out in the first few days of April. “More and Faster” is next and will appear in the KMFDM Store on May 1st.

ASP’s Horror Vacui book
Horror Vacui was the name of ASP’s best-of compilation that was released in February, and now there’s a Horror Vacui book to match. Inside, you will find 224 pages filled with the lyrics of ASP’s songs from 1999 to 2007 by singer and songwriter Alexander Spreng, along with short stories about their origins and inspirations. Available since March 14th, you can find the Horror Vacui book in ASP’s webshop or on Infrarot.de for the price of €19.80.

44 new items added to the release dates list
I was busy last night updating the release dates list. In total, I’ve added 44 new releases to the list, most of which are in April and May. We will definitely have a lot to talk about in the coming months!

Newsbites is a new format we’re trying for smaller topics that don’t really need a full article by itself. Let us know what you think about this by leaving a comment.

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

KMFDM

February 29th was KMFDM’s 24th anniversary, and to celebrate, the band has announced 24/7, a series of 24 singles on 7″ vinyl records. One remastered single from the band’s extensive catalog will be released on the first day of every month for the next 2 years, ending in February 2010 with a brand new single. Each month’s release will be strictly limited to 250 units each and they will surely sell fast. The first single, “Kickin’ Ass” which was made available in the KMFDM Store on March 1st has already sold out.

The singles are being released in order, so the next one for April should be “Don’t Blow Your Top”. If you’re a big fan of KMFDM, be sure to head over to their store on April 1st so you can get it before it’s sold out. And if you missed the release of “Kickin’ Ass” you can now hear it on KMFDM’s MySpace page.

KMFDM remix album Brimborium coming soon

KMFDM - Brimborium

The latest news from Sascha and the gang is that their new remix album is going to be released soon. February 19th in North America and the 22nd in Europe, to be exact. Brimborium (thankfully that’s a bit easier to say than Tohuvabohu) plays for well over an hour and has remixes from some of the best names in industrial and industrial-metal. I am particularly interested in those by Die Krupps, Combichrist, Angelspit, and 16 Volt… all really great bands. There is also a remix from Hau Ruck and a new song created using samples from fan phone calls. I haven’t heard that one yet, but it should be interesting.

The official KMFDM Store has the album available to preorder, or you can head to your favorite store or website which should have it as well. I would suggest either Metropolis ($12.98) or Isotank ($13.49) if you’re in North America.

Excessive Force albums to be re-released

Excessive Force albums released

If you’re a KMFDM fan, you are probably well aware of the plethora of side projects that the various KMFDM members have been involved with. Excessive Force is just one of them, started back in the early ’90s by Sascha Konietzko and Buzz McCoy (from My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult) in an effort to create a single album. Buzz left after that first album, Conquer Your World, but Sascha made another album under the Excessive Force moniker in 1993, Gentle Death. Both of them are getting pretty rare and have been out of print for over a decade, although you can still the occasional cassette or CD on eBay pretty easily (there’s even a test-press vinyl of Conquer Your World up right now). But for true fans who want new Excessive Force albums on CD that are easy to find, you will be able to get them starting November 6th, thanks to KMFDM Records.

Not only will you find these albums new and on CD, but both of them have been digitally remastered with special care by Sascha himself. The artwork has been enhanced and the booklets now include additional rarely seen photos, song lyrics and the full credits as well. All the little things we take for granted these days that were either not available or not included back then have been put into place to create a wonderful overall experience.

Take a moment to listen to some songs, especially if you like KMFDM. I don’t see how you can be disappointed. If you like it, you can pre-order both Excessive Force albums via KMFDM’s distributor Metropolis Records for just $11.98 each.

KMFDM drummer enlists with The Genitorturers

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

KMFDM drummer Andy Selway has joined the Florida-based industrial shock-rock band The Genitorturers to play for their upcoming tour. Right now, KMFDM is in the process of relocating back to Germany so Andy’s tour with The Genitorturers won’t get in the way of any KMFDM plans. Thanks to Arndt for the tip.

Tohuvabohu is out today

KMFDM - Tohuvabohu

It’s officially Tuesday (by about an hour) over here on the East coast, so that means we can now celebrate the release of the new KMFDM album Tohuvabohu! This is really a fantastic release, I really recommend that you go and listen to it while that podcast is still up this week. I think the thing that most impressed me about the album is the diversity of sounds you hear from song to song. The band members actually decided to team up into little groups to write the songs, so each one has a different sound based on who was in that group and what their personal influences are. It’s really a cool idea, and it works so well with a band like KMFDM.

Tohuvabohu is being distributed by Metropolis Records, so you should have no problem finding it in your local CD store. If you really can’t find it, just stop by the KMFDM Store and pick it up there for $12.50.

Tohuvabohu tracklist
01. Super Power
02. Looking For Strange
03. Tohuvabohu
04. I Am What I Am
05. Saft Und Kraft

09. Spit Or Swallow

How do you pronounce that? KMFDM’s new album

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

KMFDM - Tohuvabohu

KMFDM will be releasing their next album Tohuvabohu on August 21st. The release date is still nearly 2 months away, but it has already been one of the most talked about releases this year. Yet nobody can seem to agree on how to pronounce this Old Testament word (I have heard a number of different variations from people already). Tohuvabohu means “wild and chaotic” which is likely a good description of how the music will sound. The album will be KMFDM’s first time using several new languages including Spanish, Latin, Hebrew and the African language Lingala. And the first track will be laced with recordings sent in by fans about what KMFDM means to them. All of this with their usual mix of industrial, dance, and metal music should be rather interesting.

Just one other thing I’d like to mention… Some have said that KMFDM has split from their tradition of using 5-letter album titles, but I disagree. I think the title was chosen at least in part because it has 5 syllables and therefore still counts, but that’s just my opinion.

Anyway, KMFDM doesn’t have any samples from the new album online yet, but you can listen to some of their older work on their Myspace page. We will probably post another update before the album comes out, so hopefully there will be some samples or even soem full-length songs available by then.

Tohuvabohu will be a joint release by KMFDM Records and Metropolis Records.

Tohuvabohu tracklist
01. Super Power
02. Looking For Strange
03. Tohuvabohu
04. I Am What I Am
05. Saft Und Kraft
06. Headcase
07. Los Ninos
08. Not In My Name
09. Spit Or Swallow
10. Fait Accompli

KMFDM classics re-released

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

KMFDM

Some of you may have already noticed that KMFDM re-released 2 of their best albums from the 90s, Symbols and Adios, on May 11th. But we would like to point out that these aren’t the only KMFDM albums that have been re-released recently. Within the past 2 years, KMFDM Records (in cooperation with Metropolis Records) has opened up the vaults to dig out every old KMFDM album for their newer fans. Our personal favorites, Nihil and Xtort, were re-released earlier this year, while 2006 saw the second coming of every album from What Do You Know Deutschland? (originally from 1986) to Angst (from 1993).

If you’re a KMFDM fan, this is your golden opportunity to get all of their past albums for your collection. And if you’re not, check out the 2-hour KMFDM special that was aired on Radio Goethe on Sunday which features a wide range of their songs as well a lot of history and stories about the band as told by founding KMFDM member Sascha Konietzko himself. You can download the first hour here, and part 2 here (right-click to save). You can also listen to a few of their songs on the band’s Myspace page.
