And One tour dates for the USA

And One tours USA

The German Invasion has begun. One of the next German bands that will be coming to tour across the USA is And One. They had actually started out on tour last year with VNV Nation, but pulled out of the tour part-way through. Luckily for us, the band didn’t give up on the idea of playing some concerts over here. We’ll get to see them after all.

And One was created in 1989 by Steve Naghavi and Chris Ruiz in Berlin. Another famous early member of the band was Joke Jay. The band’s current lineup includes the 2 founding members plus Gio van Oli. Over the years, And One has become very well known both in Germany and around the world for their catchy EBM (early) and synthpop (later) styles of music. They have released 9 studio albums so far, with their most recent being Bodypop from 2006. Personally, I like their older songs a bit better because of the classic old school EBM sound you hear in songs like “Metalhammer” or “Deutschmaschine” but their newer more synth-oriented music is great as well.

A few other bits of interesting information: Steve Naghavi is known for remixing songs for other bands including remixes of “Fieber” and “Gekreuzigt” for Oomph! Atrocity covered And One’s song “Deutschmaschine” in 1997 on their first Werk 80 album (only as a bonus track on the limited edition, probably because “Deutschmaschine” was originally released in 1994, not in the ’80s). And One also released a special online-only single called “Amerika Brennt” for free in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks as a sign of their support for the country. Currently, And One distributed in North America on Metropolis Records.

You can watch the video for And One’s 2006 single “So Klingt Liebe” on this post.

I’ll definitely be at the NY show, hopefully I’ll be bringing a couple friends, too. I still haven’t decided if I am going down to Philly with my ex-roommates or not, but that would be in addition to NY.

BTW, this was the page I found for Club Avalon, but it is kinda sucky and doesn’t have anything about the concert or buying tickets for anything at all at the moment.

Oh, and And One pulled out of the VNV Nation tour partway through, not before the tour started, otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten to see em. ;) They were far and away better than VNV, I am very much looking forward to the next show. :D (Right after And One pulled out of the tour, I heard rumors that they were going to be coming back “soon” for their own tour, but DAMN it has taken a long time to materialise… ehh, besser spät als nie. :P)

Avalon really needs to get organized better. When I was searching Google for their website, I found about a half dozen blank or defunct websites for the club, none of which were any use. And I didn’t find this one that you recommended just now at all. Thanks for the link!

I also read a website where someone who knows Ronan from VNV Nation explained the whole And One split from the tour, saying that it was partway through, that is true. My previous source said it was before, though, which is why I originally said that. But I will make the necessary adjustments to the post.

I’m going to call Avalon sometime soon to find out how I might get tickets beforehand, or at least reserve them. I’ll let you know what happens.

I am looking forward to the NYC show…a whole group of people I know from a nightclub I hang out with are going together. I saw And One with VNV Nation @ Irving Plaza last year…what an awesome show! I cannot wait for this one!

Hi…I have a quick question to anyone who has seen And One in concert here in the US: do they sing some songs in German? I really only like the german-lyrics, and would wait to see them in Germany if they only sing in English when in the States. If anyone could let me know, I’d appreciate it! thanks!

  7. Greg Says:

    Hi Cal,
I haven’t seen And One here yet, but I’m told they do play German songs in the states. Some of their biggest hits, like “So Klingt Liebe” for example, are in German and I think they will surely play these.

They play in German. They were good and lots of energy. Thy played a Cure cover of “The Walk” and Depeche Mode Personal Jesus. Steve said in an interview that they would never cover DM glad he changed his mind. The man has such a sexy voice… in English and German those 4 years of German help… at least I know what the fuck they are talking about. LOL

Yes, there was definitely both languages used in the concert I was at last night. It was just great! There’s a review now on the blog too. :)

I was glad I went to see them, the highlight of the evening for me was when they did “Deutschmaschine”. I like their harder songs, and these tend to be in German. The two opening bands were pretty manic, so I thought And One would sport their heavier side too. A good show overall, the band is likeable no matter what they do! “Personal Jesus” might have been cuter if sung in German, it would have been like the karmic payback for Martin Gore’s version of “Das Lied vom einsamen Mädchen”. :-)

  12. Chris Says:

The Colorado event says it will be at The Oriental Theater but their website doesn’t have And One on it anywhere. Anyone know who is selling the tickets for this concert in Colorado?

  13. Greg Says:

    Hi Chris,

I looked at the venue website and found out that And One is actually playing at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, which seemes to be owned by the same company as the Oriental Theatre.

You can find tickets online here: http://cervantes.baselineticketing.com/choose.php?a=1&lid=17391&eid=21955

The tickets are $20 each and by this time you should order it for Willcall, and pick up the tickets that day at the venue. Have a great time at the show!!
