Video: “Mit dem Kopf Zuerst” by Zombie Joe

Zombie Joe released their first album Vegas in 2002 and it soon became one of my favorite albums from that year. It’s incredibly diverse, light and calm one moment and brutally hard the next. Soft vocals suddenly erupt into menacing guitar riffs. Every time I listen to Vegas, it leaves me wanting more. Zombie Joe’s second album Schlachthaus Baby turned out to be a bit more docile. While some songs aren’t as heavy as I’d like, I think it’s slightly more refined than their debut and still very much worth listening to.
Ideally, I would like to have shown you a video from both albums here, but it seems that Zombie Joe’s videos are not very pleniful on Youtube. So instead, I am showing just one video, “Mit dem Kopf Zuerst” from their second album Schlachthaus Baby. I would still urge you to visit the band’s website (go to the Media section) and watch the 2 videos for “Wunder” and “Sukkubus” from Vegas. “Mit dem Kopf Zuerst” is cool, especially with the crazy video angles and “sideways” theme, but I like the earlier ones better, personally.

I thought I had commented on this one a while ago but apparently not - apologies, but better late than never, right?
So, based on this blog post, I checked out Zombiejoe but could only track down the album “Schlachthaus, Baby” (which is very good, IMO). I was disappointed at the time to see from the band’s website that they had put that project on hiatus, but no worries, the guys are still together, simply working in another direction at the moment.
Over the past year or so they have been working under the name “The Baby Universal”, doing live shows and working on another album, which sounds like it may be nearly ready. Songs can be heard at http://www.myspace.com/thebabyuniversal and more information is available at http://www.thebabyuniversal.com/html/news.html including show dates and cryptic blog postings. It is certainly a different sound from Zombiejoe and maybe not my favorite style, but still well-executed and thought-provoking…

Wow, thanks for the info Nadja.
Personally, I like Zombiejoe’s first album Vegas better than Schlachthaus Baby, but the latter is certainly well done also. Maybe we will have to have a little listening session.
