It depends how you look at it: 2 new albums or 4 new discs. Either way, Samsas Traum is releasing a lot of new music early next month. November 2nd will see the simultaneous releases of the albums Heiliges Herz-Das Schwert Deiner Sonne and Wenn Schwarzer Regen. Heiliges Herz is definitely the main attraction. The first disc brings Samsas Traum back to their very heavy black metal sound, while the second digs deep into singer Alexander Kaschte’s archives and provides fans with several unreleased songs along side remixes by artists like Wumpscut, L’Ame Immortelle, and In Strict Confidence. Wenn Schwarzer Regen is more like a supplemental album… a companion to Heiliges Herz. It takes off in a totally different direction, opting for calmer, more minimal song arrangements. Here again, the first disc is the regular album half, while Wenn Schwarzer Regen’s second disc has a 75-minute discussion with Kaschte.

Both albums come in 2 styles of packaging, but you will get the same content with either one as far as I can tell. The main difference with the limited edition, other than the obvious limited (to 3000 units) quantity, is the fantastic artwork and unique packaging the CDs come in. You’ll get a 44-page linen-bound book with all the lyrics, liner notes, and photos on a special paper, laquer print, silver embossing, the whole nine yards. That’s definitely something for hardcore Samsas Traum fans and collectors, but if you just want the music then the regular version will be fine.
